What type of music/genres did/do music teachers teach?

Elementary to high school, college, etc. I want to know, even when you were young, what type of music your music teachers taught/showed you.
Ex: My elementary teacher introduced us to the ukelele, therefore, hawaiian music and some classical.

Since teachers are transmitter of cultural knowledge, I usually teach my students about the music of the different cultures in our country. We also tackle western and Asian music.
