Adults often reflect on their past childhood experiences and remember the piano lessons they took. Their parents would often force the children to take lessons when they did not want to do it. Many young children would rather play and have fun or watch television instead of practicing away at a keyboard.

Most parents of music students make the decision to end the lessons if the child refuses or resists the idea of practicing lesson assignments. Most adults who decide to return to the lessons years later are some of these former child piano students whose parents terminated the lessons because lack of practice. The adults often express regrets that they were so difficult regarding the piano lessons and wished they stayed with the lessons.

The piano takes devotion to wanting to learn from mistakes, as you will hit wrong keys and it won’t be pretty music. Once you have learned to read music, and can make your fingers work with your mind, you can start to learn different types of music. So learning the piano is a great way to prepare for learning other international musical instruments.

Attitude is a big part of learning, as you are going to make mistakes and it is not an overnight learning process. It takes practice over and over, until your fingers move with your eye and brain coordination-much like learning to type. As an adult, it is not an immediate gratification experience because getting results will take a lot of practice.

When children or adult students first begin lessons they may want to give up after a couple of weeks if they feel that what they are playing does not sound like real music. Many parents and children have unrealistic expectations about fast results after a couple of lessons. What most do not realize that the student learns one step at a time each week so that they gradually build some skills.
