The Six Studio Albums Of Michael Jackson’s Solo Career

During his solo career as an adult (which began in 1979) Michael Jackson released a total of six studio albums up through his untimely death in 2009. In this article you’ll find a short review of each of those six albums.

Off the Wall – This is the album that made Jackson a star on his own (without the rest of the Jacksons.) “Don’t Stop ’til You Get Enough” and “Rock with You” were the first two tracks on the album and they were also both #1 singles. “Don’t Stop ’til You Get Enough” was actually the only song on the album written by Jackson himself.

Thriller – This album made Michael Jackson the biggest pop star in the world. It’s still the biggest selling album in the history of the world (and the biggest selling album in the United States as well.) It included two more #1 hits (“Billy Jean” & “Beat It”) and an amazing seven top 10 singles. Since the album only had nine total songs that means all but two of it’s songs were top 10 hits.

Bad – This album included an amazing five #1 singles: “Bad,” “The Way You Make Me Feel,” “Just Can’t Stop Loving You,” “Man in the Mirror,” & “Dirty Diana.” It also featured other hits like “Smooth Criminal” which has gone on to be one of his best loved songs.

Dangerous – Following up the insane success of Thriller (most copies sold ever) and Bad (five #1 singles) Dangerous was bound to have a hard time living up to the hype. But it has gone on to sell over 32 million copies worldwide and it included a great deal of 10 top ten hits even if it only had one #1 in the US (“Black or White.”)

HIStory – HIStory included one disc which was a “greatest hits” collection up to that point and a second disc which included all new material. Each disc had 15 songs on it. Among the 15 new songs the most well known are “You Are Not Alone” which hit #1 in the US (and in many other countries around the world) and “Earth Song” which hit #1 in the UK and sold more copies than any other MJ single there.

Invincible – While I do agree with the critics that Invincible is Michael Jackson’s worst studio album, I disagree with just how lowly many people rate this album. I think it has quite a few redeeming moments that make it worthy of a listen. “Break of Dawn,” “Butterflies,” “Speechless,” & “Threatened” are among my favorites.
