Shopping For An Electric Guitar Amplifier? Consider These Three Types

0

No matter what type of music you play, there is a guitar amplifier that is just right for you. So how do you find the perfect guitar amplifier? You must first answer the question of what type of music you are going to play.

There is an amplifier that’s just right for any type of music you want to play. If you’re playing Jazz, Country, Heavy Metal or good old Rock-N-Roll there’s an amplifier that will be perfect for that music. After you have determined what type of music you want to play you can choose from three primary styles of amplifier construction.

Almost every electric guitar amplifier made will fall into one of the three main types of amplifier. You have the classic tube amplifier which has stood the test of time. There is the solid state amplifier which does away with tubes in favor of transistors. The most current popular guitar amplifiers are the amazing digital modeling amps.

The tube amplifier is the first type of amplifier used with the electric guitar. Tube amps are very warm sounding and give your guitar a compressed, tight feel. Tube amps work best in music that needs some light distortion such as Blues or Rock-N-Roll. Tube amps do require more maintenance than the other amplifier types.

Solid state amplifiers have no tubes and traditionally have had a cleaner, some would say colder, sound. A solid-state amplifier is very rugged and requires minimal maintenance to keep it playing well. They sound great for country music as well as some jazz and high-gain distortion.

The third type of modern guitar amplifier is the digital modeling amps. They are built to sound like other amplifiers and they include a mixture of solid state and tube amplifier sounds. The beauty of digital modeling amplifiers is their ability to go from a clean country music sound to a classic rock distortion at the push of a button.

One of the very best modeling type amplifiers is the Fender Cyber-Twin SE amplifier. It is really a hybrid amplifier in the sense that it incorporates a unique type of modeling with a full analog tube amplifier. You can get many tones from the Fender Cyber-Twin SE and I highly recommend this amplifier.

No matter what music type you play there will be an amplifier that’s best suited for you. If you’re playing Jazz, Blues or Rock-N-Roll then go with a tube amp. If you’re playing Country or modern Heavy Metal, then stick with Solid State. If you will be playing a lot of different styles of music then your best bet will be a digital modeling amplifier.
