Once You Become skilled at The Guitar You Will Find Charisma
I remember, a long time ago, I saw a concert with Stevie Ray Vaughn, before he was really famous. He played in a gymnasium in San Diego. I was about three yards from the stage, close enough to watch his fingers flying across the neck of his guitar with surprising speed and accuracy. It was perhaps the most profound musical experience I’ve ever encountered.
Something about being able to play music, and the guitar in particular, seems to have a powerful effect on people. It’s as if by playing the guitar you tap into some part of human nature that is inaccessible through words alone. Like you can express things that you wouldn’t otherwise be able to express.
Many people would like to learn the guitar, but for some reason, think that it will be to difficult, or take too much time. Many imagine years and years of practice without every being able to play a single song. This is sad, because the guitar is the most popular instrument for a reason. It is relatively easy to learn, and simple to play a few songs once you learn.
When you break it down, guitar playing falls into two categories. Playing chords, or groups of notes, or playing individual notes. Chords is considered “strumming” while notes is sometimes considered “picking.” Either of these is relatively easy to learn, but most people choose to start by playing a few basic chords.
One thing that many people find both surprising and helpful is that most popular music today consists of very few basic chords. You can easily learn to play these chords in a relatively short amount of time. Before you know it, you can play along with your favorite band.
If you’ve ever thought about playing guitar, now’s the time. Just pick up any simple acoustic guitar and get started. Once you learn a few chords, and can play along with your favorite band, you’ll know the powerful secret that comes with being able to play the guitar.
