Learn How To Play Blues Guitar
Looking for blues guitar lessons ” Why? Blues guitar formed the roots of most modern music i.e. Rock ” Metal ” Funk ” R&B etc Many new guitar students like to start of with blues guitar because it less complex than say classical guitar and they can start making music faster and continue to be motivated.
The main reason for the blues guitar lesson is that the basic are easier to get down at first and can be massively built upon for a lifetime. In a blues guitar lesson you will learn a few different basics from a few different areas i.e. scales ” chords ” and licks.
When I first sit down with a new student I like to teach them the pentatonic scale on the guitar. Its easy because its a 5 note pattern. Students seem to remember this pattern easily plus this is the building block of things to come in additional guitar lessons.
The other great thing about the pentatonic scale is being that it only has 5 notes. This is great when you are soloing over say a 12 “Bar Blues progression. Why? Well the conflicting notes are removed allow you to solo more freely and not worry about playing a sour note. So the first blues guitar lesson should cover that scale.
Power chords are typically the next lesson for blues guitar. This works well because power chords are built from the root note and the 5th note above that. So its a 2 note chord and easy for the student learn and apply.
The 12 Bar Blues is taught after the student has a handle on power chords. The cool thing is that they are so easy to learn and students keep staying focus wanting to learn more. Being a movable chord the power chord virtually becomes hundreds of chords.
The 12 Bar Blues is a 3 note progression, 12 measures long and follows a certain order. Once you hear it for the first time youll recognize it instantly in about a thousand tunes. There are many different variations but I teach the most common at first.
Typically I have the student record a 12 Bar Blues in a certain key and practice soloing over it. Even just playing simple repeating melodies is one of the coolest feelings for the new guitarist. Just a simple looping pattern can do amazing things for the students moral.
Sometimes a student will not have the gear to record with so what I normally do is just play the 12 Bar Blues for them while they solo and work on melodies and riffs.
You owe yourself the gift of music and if you are serious about learning the guitar you can do it right online. It has never been more affordable to learn a new instrument then today. Take 2 weeks and apply the lesson and your piers wont believe what they hear when you plug in.
