Getting a Classical Music Record Deal to Make Your Dreams Come True
If you are a classical musician, your dream is to probably have a classical music record deal that will enable you to play music professionally for the rest of your life. You are not alone in this dream, but many that have it do not go about it the right way and end up never having that dream realized. Here are a few things that you can do that may just give you a bit of a head start on your competition.
Before you can do anything, you must create a demo that is going to impress the decision makers with record companies. If you want to sound like a professional, you are going to have to use a professional studio and producer. This is all going to cost money, but you can sometimes share time or work out a deal to come in off hours. Even if you find that it takes you longer than you want, it is much better to have a complete product than something that sounds like it was put together in a basement.
Once you have the demo done, it is time to work on the packaging of the product. This is one area that you can make yourself stand out with the record companies. Far too many musicians throw something together haphazardly and present what looks like something you put together as a teenager to give to one of your friends. If the packaging looks professional, you have a much better chance of being taken seriously.
There should also be a press kit included with everything that you are sending off to the record company. You will want them to have a little more than just your music to go on. Get a professional photo done, do a quick bio and list some of your musical accomplishments. If you have played on other albums or made appearances, this is exactly where it should be listed. A nice picture and some interesting information will go a long way to get you through the front door.
Choosing the labels that you want to solicit is the next step in the process. While you will definitely want to take your shot and send something to the major label’s, don’t limit yourself to just this. There are a lot of companies out there that work in conjunction with bigger labels in developing younger talent. If you start to blossom, they will sell your contract to the bigger labels to continue your rise to stardom.
At this point, you are ready to start to contact record companies. You must give them a call first to let them know that you are going to be sending them your demo. This is not the movies where a magical CD shows up in the mail and everyone goes crazy over it. Labels will usually discard or return any demos that they are not aware of or are unsolicited.
At this point, fate will have to work its magic. Doing everything professionally will go a long way in the eyes of the people that make decisions. Some musicians may be talented, but sending in a sloppy demo puts the record companies on alert as to the type of person that they are dealing with. If you follow our tips, you just may pick up the phone and have all of your dreams come true.
