Rainforests constitute much of the landscape of Panama, which is reported to attract many of the tourists that visit throughout the year. It has a vast selection of flora and fauna. As a result there are at least sixteen national parks in Panama.

The first national park to have boundaries in two countries is the Amistad, which is situated in Panama but also in Costa Rica. A tourist visiting Amistad can easily find accommodation and modes of travel, among other services. They are also invited to fish in a local river called Teribe.

The Bastimentos Marine Park consists of several islands and has wildlife and sandy beaches. The protective reach of the Bastimentos is not reserved for just the animals and beaches but also for the coral reef off its shores.

The Baru Volcano is contained within the Baru preservation. The volcano is visited by numerous tourists who drive to its top with the hopes of seeing wildlife along the way. The volcano also boasts scenic views.

The Barro Colorado is a little park when compared to some of the others but it is not small in terms of activities. The Giant Tree is a point of interest that is part of a tour offered to travelers.

Located within Campana are monkeys and wild pigs, not to mention different birds and reptiles. A local hero, the Golden Frog, can also be found in Campana. It is noteworthy to add that the Golden Frog is at risk of extinction.

The Canas Wildlife Refuge has many differing turtle species. These turtles are known to entertain tourists when they come out at night. The refuge is also known for its hiking and water sports.

The main water supply for the Panama Canal is from the rivers of the Chagres National Park. The Chagres permits rafting in at least some of its rivers and has lakes where visitors engage in all kinds of water sports. It is also enjoyed by campers and bird watchers.

Coiba is more isolated than some of the other parks, and therefore has fewer serves available to tourists, such as hotels and transportation. Nevertheless, it is very attractive to many travelers because of its sandy beaches and turtle populations. Plus, its waters are famous for Blue and Black Marlin sightings.

Darien is not only a nature preserve it is also the home of different indigenous populations. It offers jungle hiking, and it is also possible to encounter indigenous tribes during such hikes. Some visitors have even had the pleasure of being entertained by tribal dancers.

Just as one might expect Iguana has loads of iguanas living inside its boundaries. However, that is not the only thing Iguana is known for. It has other marine animals like turtles. Plus, migrating whales pay Iguana a visit each year.

This is a sample of some of the national parks in Panama. They are known for their vast rainforests and diverse wild life. There are several others and each have attributes that make them unique. There is even a park only ten minutes from the capital city, called the Metropolitan.
