0

If you wish to learn acoustic guitar you need a little more than just learn the right techniques. It’s also important to learn a large number of songs to make the all process more musical. There are many easy guitar songs around that every guitar player should make part of his repertoire.

The first song I normally teach a beginner is “Stand By Me”. The song is very easy and uses just 4 chords. Also the same chords progression is used on a number of different songs, so when you learn it you can actually play “I Believe I Can Fly”, “Lonely”, “Every Breath You Take” just to name a few titles you might know.

In our quest for easy guitar songs we cannot leave Bob Dylan. The man wrote a large number of great songs using 4 simple chords, selling an insane amount of records and having many famous artist (Jimi Hendrix – Guns & Roses to name a few) covering his songs. Some of the tracks you should be looking for are “Knocking on Heaven’s Door”, “Blowing In The Wind” and “All Along The Watch Tower”.

British boy bands are also popular for writing easy guitar songs. The n1 band is obviously the Beetles. These guys had a big variety of music in their catalog some of which was quite tricky for a boy band while a large number was quite simple to play. They have 7th and sus chords in their songs so make sure you know all the open chord shapes at least. Songs you should be looking at are “Let It Be”, “Yesterday”, “Here Comes The Sun” and “Hey Jude”.

U2 and Cold Play are also very famous british bands with a very simple approach on writing. If you look carefully you will find plenty easy guitar songs in their repertoire you can play. Some of the most popular songs are: Where The Streets Have No Name, With or Without You, Clocks, Viva La Vida.

To have a good time jamming a few easy guitar songs with some friends can be quite a simple thing. Just learn a few of the songs before hand and get a nice bottle of vine.
