Beat Selling
Skepticism can be found throughout all ranks of the producer community when it comes to beat selling and making money as a beat maker. Most people who want to become a music producer end up completely missing the fact that the internet is a great venue for your beats to pull in a great full time income.
I think that SEO marketing is the key to success online if you have a website. I really love getting free traffic every day from the search engines without having to lift a finger. I combine that with article marketing, viral marketing and more to create some real buzz for my products (including beats).
A lot of that information is pretty advanced and I don’t think it’s where any producer should start. The very first place I always tell beat makers to dive into is Soundclick. If you get a high ranking in the Soundclick charts as a producer, you will become a mini-legend in the pretty large community of SC. Go ahead and Google “beats” sometime and you’ll find that Soundclick is the first mass community website to come up in the listings. They have a huge section for rappers so your target audience is sitting there waiting for you.
The best qualities about Soundclick are the following facts:
1. If you make it to a high position in the Beats/Instrumentals charts on Soundclick, you will be seeing gigantic promotion. When I get into the top 10 on Soundclick I usually see about 20,000-50,000 plays per day on average with over 4,000 downloads. That all translates into sales and my beats are all tagged.
2. The paid promotions on Soundclick (though highly priced and somewhat risky) are well worth it for the most part. Some of their promo isn’t worth $1 but I explain all that in the eBooks I’ve written (you can check out the links in the last paragraph of this article)
3. Rising in Soundclick’s charts is a great way to take a look at the “snow ball effect” of viral marketing. As you get higher in those charts you see a direct increase in sales.
This is a challenge for all my readers: go out today and try selling your music! If you think you can license your beats off to rappers because you’ve got quality music, then it’s time to start. Check out the links in the paragraph below and visit my site to download the eBooks which will help you in your quest to make money.
