Sense and Sensibility: Lucid, modern-day look at Jane Austen’s novel in reference to 2 recently impoverished siblings one impulsive and flirtatious, the other persistently hindered and made to suppress her sensations of love. The Age of Innocence: Humble although powerful rendition of Edith Wharton’s novel in reference to an obstructed romance between an involved lawyer and a divorcee, in 1870s Manhattan. Starts off with a super Jazz Age montage opening, then gets slowed down in static, stagy therapy as older Boles interconnects the tale of his ill-fated event to his grandson. Cast includes Irene Dunne, John Boles, Lionel Atwill, Helen Westley, Laura Wish Teams, and Julie Haydon. (81 minutes, 1934)

Raintree County: Clift is a small town Hoosier who makes the blunder of wedding Southern belle Taylor before the start of the Civil War. Intense performing and memorable Johnny Green score help make up for the over-long script. Clift was maimed in near-lethal automobile mishap throughout production, and his work understandably agonizes for it. Cast includes Elizabeth Taylor, Montgomery Clift, Eva Marie Savior, Lee Marvin, and Nigel Patrick. (168 minutes, 1957)

Tracks: Hopper chaperones lifeless Vietnam friend across the nation by train, but eventuafiy goes bonkers. Cast includes Dennis Hopper, Taryn Power, Dean Stockwell, Topa Swope, Michael Emil, and Zack Norman. (90 minutes, 1976)

Great Guns: Later Laural and Hardy Army comedy is weak, not as poor as some although far underneath their classic films. Cast includes Stan Laurel, Oliver Hardy, Sheila Ryan, Dick Nelson, and Edmund MacDonald. (74 minutes, 1941)

So Dark the Night: Renowned Parisian investigator is set to work throughout his holy day in the French country side. An impressively made B film, something of a sleeper in its time, agonizes only for absence of appeal on the part of its (mainly obscure) cast. Cast includes Steven Geray, Micheline Cheirel, Eugene Borden, Ann Codee, Egon Brecher, and Helen Freeman. (71 minutes, 1946)

The Face of Fu Manchu: The deaths in London continue, convincing Scotland Yards that the evil Fu Manchu is still alive in spite of people witnessing his execution. The film is set in an incredible 1920s environment, with an excellent global cast. Cast includes Christopher Lee, Nigel Green, James Robertson Law, Howard Marion-Crawford, Tsai Chin, and Walter Rilla. (96 minutes, 1965)

Lilo and Stitch: Forlorn Hawaiian gal being brought up by her older sibling finds a doubtful buddy at the dog pound an alien whom she names Sew. In the mean time, ambassadors from Sew’s world have arrived in this world to recover the damaging little creature. Gorgeous watercolor surroundings are simply spectacular. Cast includes Voices of Daveigh Pursue, Christopher Michael Sanders, Tia Carrere, Kevin McDonald, Ving Rhames, David Ogden Stiers, Zoe Caldwell, Jason Scott Lee, and Kevin Michael Richardson. (85 minutes, 2002)

Murphy’s Romance: Youthful divorcee (with twelve-year-old child) makes new start in little Arizona town, where she’s allured to an older laid-back widowed pharmacist. This movie is an intriguing, carefree comedy written by Irving Ravetch and Harriet Frank, Jr. Cast includes Sally Field, James Garner, Brian Kerwin, Corey Haim, Dennis Burkley, Georgann Johnson, and Charles Aisle. (107 minutes, 1985)
